Mark and Luke

Mark: The Helper Who Wrote a Big Story

Scripture:

Mark 1-16 (The Gospel of Mark), Acts 12:12, 1 Peter 5:13

Role:

Helper, Writer, Friend of Peter

Story:

Once upon a time, there was a man named Mark. His full name was John Mark, and he lived a long, long time ago when Jesus was teaching people about God’s love. Mark wasn’t one of Jesus’ twelve special helpers, but he loved Jesus and wanted to help tell His story.

Mark had some big adventures! He traveled with two super cool guys named Paul and Barnabas. They were like Jesus’ messengers, going to faraway places to tell people about Him. At first, Mark went with them, but one time he got a little scared or tired and went back home. Later, though, he grew braver and joined them again. He didn’t give up!

Mark also had a friend named Peter, who was one of Jesus’ closest helpers. Peter told Mark all about the amazing things Jesus did—like walking on water and helping sick people get better. Mark listened with big eyes and a happy heart. Then, he decided to write it all down in a book we now call the Gospel of Mark. It’s like a superhero story about Jesus, full of action and love!

Mark’s mom had a house where people who loved Jesus would meet to pray. So, Mark grew up knowing how special Jesus was. He wasn’t a big leader like Paul or Peter, but he was a helper who used his words to share God’s story with the world. And that made him pretty awesome!

Luke: The Doctor Who Loved to Learn

Scripture:

Luke 1-24 (The Gospel of Luke), Acts 1-28, Colossians 4:14

Role:

Doctor, Writer, Friend of Paul

Message:

Jesus loves everyone and came to bring joy and hope!

Story:

A long time ago, there was a man named Luke. He wasn’t one of Jesus’ twelve special helpers, but he had a big heart and a curious mind. Luke was a doctor, which means he knew how to help people when they were sick or hurt. But he didn’t just fix bodies—he wanted to share God’s love, too!

Luke became friends with a man named Paul, who traveled everywhere telling people about Jesus. Paul was brave and strong, and Luke went with him on some of his trips. Luke listened to all the stories about Jesus—how He helped people, taught them, and even came back to life after He died. Luke thought, “Wow, everyone needs to know this!”

So, Luke started asking questions and talking to people who had seen Jesus with their own eyes. He was like a detective, collecting all the clues about Jesus’ life. Then, he wrote it all down in a book called the Gospel of Luke. He didn’t stop there—he also wrote another book called Acts, about all the amazing things Jesus’ friends did after He went to heaven.

Luke wasn’t loud or bossy. He was gentle and kind, and he loved learning. Because he wrote everything down so carefully, we can read about Jesus today and feel like we’re right there with Him. Luke’s stories show us that God loves everyone—even you and me!
