Hey, kids! In the New Testament, Jesus picked twelve special friends to follow Him and learn
how to share His love with the world. These guys were called the Twelve Disciples, and they
went on amazing adventures with Jesus. Some were fishermen, some made mistakes, but they
all helped spread His good news. After one disciple left, a new friend joined the team. Let’s meet
them and see what we can learn from their stories!
God can use us even when we mess up, because He loves us and makes us strong.
Peter walked on water (a little!), denied Jesus, but then became a brave leader after Jesus rose.
“‘You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church.’” – Matthew 16:18a (NIV)
Draw a big rock and write “Peter” on it. Talk about how you can be brave for Jesus!
We can tell our friends and family about Jesus too!
Andrew was one of the first to follow Jesus and even brought Peter to Him.
“Come and see,” said Andrew (about Jesus). – John 1:39 (paraphrased, NIV)
Make a fishing net with string and paper. Talk about bringing a friend to “meet” Jesus.
We can follow Jesus with all our heart and energy.
James worked with his brother John and was there for big moments like Jesus’ transfiguration.
“Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” – Hebrews 12:1b (NIV)
Draw a boat for James the fisherman. Talk about doing your best for Jesus!
We can love Jesus and tell others about His love too.
John was super close to Jesus and wrote the Gospel of John and Revelation.
“For God so loved the world…” – John 3:16a (NIV)
Make a heart with “John” on it. Share a way you can show love like John!
We can help our friends find Jesus too!
Philip brought Nathanael to Jesus and explained Him to an Ethiopian man.
“Come and see,” said Philip. – John 1:46b (NIV)
Make a “Come and See” sign. Pretend to invite a friend to learn about Jesus!
Being real and asking questions helps us know Jesus better.
Philip brought him to Jesus, and Jesus said he was a true and honest guy.
“Here truly is an Israelite in whom there is no deceit.” – John 1:47b (NIV)
Draw a tree (Nathanael met Jesus under one!). Talk about being honest with Jesus.
It’s okay to ask questions—Jesus helps us believe!
Thomas didn’t believe Jesus rose until he saw Him, then he trusted completely.
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – John 20:29b (NIV)
Make a question mark and write “Thomas.” Talk about something you believe about Jesus.
Jesus loves everyone and can change our hearts to follow Him.
People didn’t like tax collectors, but Jesus chose Matthew to be His disciple.
“Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” – Matthew 4:19 (NIV)
Make a pretend “tax booth” with a box and coins. Talk about following Jesus like Matthew!
We don’t have to be loud to love and serve Jesus!
“Be still, and know that I am God.” – Psalm 46:10a (NIV)
“Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” – John 20:29b (NIV)
Draw a smiley face with “James” on it. Talk about quietly helping others for Jesus.
We can talk to Jesus and care about what He says!
Thaddaeus asked Jesus why He showed Himself to the disciples, showing he cared.
“Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me.” – John 14:21a (NIV)
Write a question for Jesus on paper with “Thaddaeus.” Talk about listening to Him.
We can be excited and strong for Jesus in everything we do!
Simon was called a “Zealot,” meaning he cared a lot about his beliefs, and he gave that to Jesus.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.” – Colossians 3:23a (NIV)
Draw a fire (for passion!) with “Simon.” Talk about something you’re excited about with Jesus!
Choosing wrong things can hurt us and others, but Jesus still loves us.
Judas gave Jesus to His enemies for 30 silver coins, but Jesus forgave even that.
“Do not let your hearts be troubled.” – John 14:1a (NIV)
Draw 30 coins and talk about making good choices, not like Judas.
God chooses us to help Him, even when we’re new to the team!
After Judas left, the disciples prayed, and Matthias was chosen to join them in sharing Jesus’ story.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you.” – John 15:16a (NIV)
Make a paper crown with “Matthias” on it. Talk about being picked to do something special for Jesus!
